MIT Teacher Education Program - Games, Simulations and Professional Development
Description:
The MIT Teacher Education Program (TEP) runs periodic programs on using games and simulations in secondary school classes. Most of the programs are aimed at teachers interested in using new technologies in the classroom. Occassional outreach directly to students is also offered. The TEP focuses on the following projects
-StarLogo (http://education.mit.edu/starlogo) - This is a programming environment designed to help students and teachers build their own computer simulations (and more recently games).
-Participatory Simulations (http://education.mit.edu/pda) - These handheld games/simulations run on Palm computers and help students and teachers learn about systems, with an emphasis in Biology. This is an active project recruiting teachers.
-Augmented Reality Simulations (http://education.mit.edu/ar) - These simulations/games use location specific information to embed students and teachers inside of authentic scientific investigations.
